Some tokens keep a freeze authority. Regulated assets use it for compliance; scam tokens sometimes use it to trap holders.
What freezing does
A frozen account cannot send, burn, or close. The deposit stays locked until the freeze authority thaws the account.
What you can do
Legitimate issuers may unfreeze on request. For abandoned or malicious tokens there is usually no remedy, so it is best to check the freeze authority before buying new tokens.

Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't the scanner show my frozen accounts?
They cannot be closed, and including them would make the whole transaction fail, so they are filtered out.
