Why You Need a Little SOL to Reclaim SOL
Updated · 3 min read
The fee payer must be able to cover the transaction fee when the transaction starts, before any rent is returned.
How much is enough
The base fee is 0.000005 SOL per signature plus a small priority fee. A balance of around 0.001 SOL is comfortably enough for several batches.
If your wallet has zero SOL
Send a tiny amount of SOL from another wallet or an exchange first. After the first batch lands, the returned rent covers the following batches.
Check your wallet for locked SOL
Scan any Solana address for empty token accounts and see exactly how much rent you can reclaim. Free to check, non-custodial to close.
Frequently asked questions
Can someone else pay the fee for me?
Technically another wallet can be the fee payer, but that requires a coordinated signing flow. Topping up a tiny amount is simpler.
