How to Reclaim SOL From Pump.fun Tokens You Already Sold
Updated · 5 min read
Memecoin trading creates token accounts at a rapid pace. Each new token you buy opens an account funded from your SOL, and selling the whole bag usually leaves that account empty but still open. Over months of trading this adds up.
Why pump.fun traders have the most locked SOL
Buying a token for the first time creates an associated token account for that mint. The rent deposit, about 0.0015 SOL at today's rate, is paid by your wallet at that moment. Selling everything later empties the account, but most trading interfaces do not close it for you.
Traders who have touched hundreds of launches often have hundreds of empty accounts. That can be anywhere from a few tenths of a SOL to several SOL sitting idle.
How to recover it
Scan your trading wallet, select the empty accounts, and close them in batches. Because the rent returns to the same wallet, you can put it straight back to work.
- Connect the wallet you trade with.
- Run a scan to list zero-balance token accounts.
- Select all, review the net amount, and approve the transaction.
- Repeat every few weeks if you trade actively.
Tokens that still show a tiny balance
Sometimes a sell leaves a microscopic remainder. Those accounts are not empty, so they cannot be closed until the remainder is burned. Rug-pulled tokens with no liquidity are a common case.

Frequently asked questions
Will closing accounts affect my trading history?
No. Your past transactions stay on-chain and remain visible in explorers. Only the empty account itself is removed.
Can I buy the same token again after closing its account?
Yes. A new token account is created automatically when you buy again, with a new rent deposit.
