Closing Wrapped SOL Accounts
Updated · 3 min read
Wrapped SOL (wSOL) is SOL held in a token account so that programs can treat it like any other token. Swaps sometimes leave a wSOL account open after the trade.
Closing unwraps
Closing a wrapped SOL account sends all of its lamports, both the rent deposit and any wrapped balance, back to your wallet as native SOL.
Empty wSOL accounts
An empty wSOL account is closed like any other empty token account. If it still shows a wrapped balance, unwrap it in your wallet or with the CLI first.
Check your wallet for locked SOL
Scan any Solana address for empty token accounts and see exactly how much rent you can reclaim. Free to check, non-custodial to close.
Frequently asked questions
Is wrapped SOL a different token from SOL?
It represents the same SOL, held inside a token account. Unwrapping converts it back one to one.
